Sherry's Shawlette |
|||||||||
This little shoulder shawl was made in appreciation of Sherry’s wit, patience, knowledge, talent, perseverance, and friendship. Though I have been acquainted with Sherry for over 25 years, I got to work closely with her during 2008-9 as we co-chaired an exhibit of 19th-century Pennsylvania German quilts for Packwood House Museum in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Sherry is a master quilter who specializes in 19th-century reproduction quilts. The knowledge and vision that she brought to the development of the Packwood House exhibit was extraordinary. This, then, was a small gift for a remarkable woman. The shawl was made of two-ply, hand-spun, hand-painted silk yarn in shades of purple and blue (great with jeans). The fiber was purchased in New Zealand. It weighs 1.2 ounces, and used approximately 175 yards of yarn. Shawlettes can give a little warmth to neck and shoulders, or be worn as just a decorative accessory. The lace pattern stitch is called “Roman Stripe” and the shawlette pattern came from Hunt Valley Cashmere, in Maryland. |
