Madli's Shawl

This shawl design is “Madli’s Shawl” by Nancy Bush, published in the Summer 2004 issue of Interweave Knits magazine.  It was spun and knit during April and May of 2005 (along with Ene’s Scarf) in anticipation of taking Nancy’s class in Estonian lace knitting at the 2005 Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in May.  About eight inches of the shawl were done by the time I attended the class; the finished measurements of the shawl are approximately 75 inches long by 24.5 inches wide. It was knit using approximately 952 yards/7.25 ounces of a two-ply handspun yarn that is approximately 60% wool and 40% silk.

The bottom right image shows a closeup of the "nupps" (Estonian bobbles) that are a classic feature of Estonian lace knitting.
