JanieÕs Afghan

In the spring of 2004, Janie's husband, Dave, and I agreed that his birthday gift to Janie that year would include the designing of whatever she wished with the agreed-on price. Consequently, Janie got to stand in front of my fiber closet and choose the fibers to be spun and knitted into this afghan. Then we looked at stitch dictionaries an sketches I'd done to give us a starting place, and the design evolved into something close to the finished product.

There is no sewing-together of pieces in this afghan; only grafting and picking-up of stitches to attach sections to our build pieces from other pieces. The afghan measures approximately 41 inches by 63 inches, weighs 2 pounds, 5.8 ounces, and includes wool, silk, and mohair fibers. It used approximately 1,800 yards of two-ply handspun yarn.
