Glittens
"Glittens" are a combination of mittens and gloves. They feature a mitten cap that folds back and tucks under the cuff (or can be secured with a button) and under that, a kind of glove with the tops of the fingers omitted to allow for freedom of movement.

I made these in January 2003 for our rural delivery letter carrier, Terry. I had noticed him wearing ratty commercial ones and thought he deserved handspun/handknit ones for all the beyond-the-call-of -duty service he gives us.

The "glittens" are made of one ply of Elspeth Wilkinson's "Forest" colorway of dyed New Zealand Romney wool and one ply of an undyed medium-brown New Zealand Romney wool. The pair weighs 3.85 ounces and used approximately 259 yards of yarn.
Above, glittens as seen from the top--just like mittens. Below left, right-hand glitten is shown with mitten cap folded back and tucked under the cuff. Below right, same right-hand glitten, but left glitten is shown palm-up to show ribbing across the bottom of the cap for a snug fit when being worn as mittens.
