Copper Penny Moebius

This cowl-like moebius scarf is adapted from the “White Lacy Shoulder Wrap” design in Cat Bordhi’s A Treasury of Magical Knitting (Passing Paws Press, 2000, pp-55-56).  A moebius strip has one surface and one edge, which makes topological sense, but is hard for mere mortals to grasp.  Translating this to knitting took true genius, and the unique technique keeps the knitter fascinated.

This scarf was made for my friend Nancy L. upon her retirement as coordinator of our local Red Cross Chapter’s Blood Services program, for which I spend many hours volunteering.  It turns out that Nancy was two years behind me in high school in Massachusetts, which we didn’t re-discover until we’d known each other here in central Pennsylvania for several years.

Anyway, the “copper penny” part comes from the fiber I spun for the scarf.  It came from Phylleri Ball’s Steam Valley Farm, and is a lovely blend of her fibers, enhanced by a bit of copper-colored “glitz” for sparkle.
