Buffalo Bowl |

This medium-sized felted bowl was made in February 2006 in much the same manner as my felted pet beds, only smaller. The fiber in the rim and fringe is a mix of buffalo down (brown) and fine white merino wool. The bottom of the bowl is a natural brown wool in almost exactly the same color as the buffalo down. Buffalo down is an underappreciated fiber, as it is very nearly as soft and fine as cashmere, and much less expensive! This same yarn was used in a pair of novelty pillows earlier. The close-up photo below shows the detail of the Moebius twist in the bowl rim. Thanks to Cat Bordhi, author of The Second Treasury of Magical Knitting, for her inspiration. The bowl weighs about 5.4 ounces and measures about 5 inches tall, 10.5 inches in diameter at the bottom and 8 inches in diameter at the top. The bottom photo shows the bowl before felting. |
