This poncho is hand knit using approximately 9.1 ounces/498 yards of two-ply, handspun yarn. The yarn is 100$ natural black alpaca from Peru. The pattern, greatly enlarged by knitting with worsted weight yarn and size 10 (US) needles, was adapted from a knitted doily pattern called "Kreuzlblute" in the booklet "Old World Treasures" by Gloria Penning. The square doily is to be knitted from the center out. By starting at the point where the pattern has 64 stitches and knitting out from there, the neck opening is established, and work proceeds from there. The poncho was completed during the fall of 2004. |
